Cooking Out Loud Stories and Recipes shared by Michele Maguire Beck
Few experiences in life are better than enjoying a delicious meal with loved ones. Sharing beloved recipes and stories is an excellent way for families to stay connected with the past and with one another.
Michele Maguire Beck understands how good food can bring people together. Cooking Out Loud is a culinary love letter to Michele's childhood that contains dozens of delicious recipes closely associated with her small-town, midwestern upbringing:
- Comfort foods like macaroni and cheese, baked French onion soup, and sweet dough
- Delicious desserts, including rhubarb cheesecake, ginger cookies, and Boston cream pie
- Unique dishes such as macaroni shrimp salad, Mexican corn pie, and sweet potato quiche
I think you will find the stories and the recipes delicious. She introduces each chapter with memories of family dinners, stories of food.
Though some of these dishes may be unfamiliar to you, the love of home cooking is universal.

Michele Maguire Beck was born and raised in Iowa, where she enjoyed the gifts of a loving family and a small rural community. She attended Iowa State University and Drake University and earned degrees in family and consumer science education and curriculum and instruction. She has taught at the high school and collegiate level. She calls herself a reluctant widow, who is working to find her sense of humor again. She dreams of cooking classes, needs help from others to fuel her passions and the rest is yet to be determined. Sharing a meal and good conversation is still one of the most rewarding ways to spend her time.
