About the Author Crighton Nyereyemhuka was born on 17 April 1948 at Sandringham Mission in the then Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. His parents were peasant farmers. Crighton is the sixth child and second son in a large family of six girls and four boys. He attended primary school at Sandringham Central Primary School before going to Moleli Secondary School for his secondary education. From Moleli he went to train as a teacher at Waddilove Training Institution. From 1968 to 1976 he served as a schoolteacher before going to the University of Rhodesia where he obtained the Diploma in Social Work in 1979. After that he served as a Social Services Officer before being promoted to the position of Provincial Community Development Officer, Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe. In 1986 Crighton went to the University of Zimbabwe where he studied and obtained the Bachelor of Social Work degree. In 1987 he joined the Municipality of Chinhoyi as Director of Housing and Community Services. In 1992 he took a study leave and went to the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK, where he studied and obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree. After leaving the Municipality of Chinhoyi, he served as lecturer in the School of Social Work, University of Zimbabwe, from 2000 to 2010. The author is a local preacher of the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe who has a passion for understanding family and social relationships. In this regard, through focus group discussions with fellow church members and many other people, he seeks to understand more about these relationships. From time to time he conducts seminars and workshops on counselling; and provides counselling with a strong Christian bias. His experience in social research and counselling has a strong bearing on his interpretations and observations on many topics discussed in the book. Crighton is married to Lydia and the two have five adult children and twelve grand children. The couple enjoys small-scale farming on their plot at Sandringham Mission Farm in Zimbabwe. The author also enjoys watching football and athletics as well as listening to country music.
