Mrs Beatrice Awura Oboshie Allua Fisher was born on May 3 1933 in Lagos. She attended the Salvation Army School, Odunlami Street Lagos Nigeria and the Cathedral Girls Primary School, Freetown, Sierra Leone, both between 1939 and 1945. Between 1946 and 1950 she also attended Annie Walsh Memorial School Freetown, Sierra Leone. Mrs Fisher enrolled at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Lagos State Nigeria in 1968 and in 1971 she graduated with a LLB Honours in Law: In 1972 she was called to the Nigerian Bar and then became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Born in Nigeria by non-Nigerian parents she acquired Nigerian citizenship in 1969. She was made a Notary Public in 1979. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK and is also a Member of the Nigerian Branch of the United Kingdom Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. With a background in Nursing and Midwifery she holds qualifications in Ophthalmic Nursing and is a State Registered Nurse of the United Kingdom and in Midwifery having been trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital Glasgow, Scotland. She is a member of several Professional Associations. She was appointed the United Nations Representative for the International Federation of Women Lawyers(FIDA) of which Nigeria is a Chapter in 1968 and served in this office until 1992.
