Dr. Freya Anderson Rivers has diversified experience as an author, teacher, educational consultant, publisher, retail business owner and a leader in government, economic and social issues. Her educational background includes post-doctoral work at Michigan State University in Family and Child Ecology, an Educational Administration Doctorate from Vanderbilt of Nashville, Tennessee, a Masters of Education from Southern University and a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is the author and editor of many publications and books. She has served as president and founder of several businesses and educational organizations. She desegregated East Baton Rouge Parish Schools in 1963, filed suit and desegregated Louisiana State University in 1964 and she was the first Black buyer for a major department store in Baton Rouge. Currently Dr. Rivers is the author of Swallowed Tears: A memoir, director of The Genius Academy (An educational consulting group, www.thegeniusacademy.org ), the lead author of the Challenging the Genius Curriculum and an independent consultant. Ms. Angela Hawkins-Rivers is a member of The Genius Academy consulting group. She is a graduate of Michigan State University in Psychology. Her previous experience includes lead instructor and director of Sankofa Watoto, a preschool program with the Sankofa Shule Public School Academy and co-owner, director and instructor of Simba's Pride Pre-school. Angela is currently an independent consultant in busines and professional development in recognizing racism. This training is valuable to all government agencies and private businesses.
