"I heard he's - umm - not playing with the full deck any more."Charming and amoral hitman Eddie Macpherson is receiving treatment for anxiety and depression, and he wants out. Just one last contract, a key witness in a financial misconduct case, make it look like an accident, suicide if pushed. As Eddie stalks the woman, they fall in love. She is grieving over the recent death of her parents in an apparent double suicide at a remote medieval mansion in the Highlands. And although she has been suspended from the bank on full pay, Eddie becomes convinced that this is a case of mistaken identity. But his shadowy employer is determined to have her killed, and if Eddie won't deliver, there are plenty of others who will. He informs Eddie that he has now appointed someone else for the contract, and that Eddie's assistance, and Eddie himself, are no longer required. There's only one thing for it: kill him before his contractors can strike. Eddie discovers that the man and his partner are about to take a short holiday in Scotland, where Eddie grew up. This brings back memories of his abusive, insane father who vanished many years ago in mysterious circumstances. Old sins cast long shadows, and when it finally dawns on Eddie just why the client was so very keen to lure him into this contract, he finds himself in the sights of a ruthless and brilliant adversary who has always been several steps ahead of him. When he takes his lover to a safe haven with his family in Scotland, he walks right into a deadly trap which will get him killed and framed for multiple murders. With his lover, his family and his own life hanging in the balance, Eddie must recover his wits, and fast. But then Eddie has always had a very particular set of skills...and getting away with murder is just one of them.
