The Healing Power of Sleep

Why do we do it? Why do we feel compelled to lie down, shut our eyes and check out of this reality for several hours every night? We know that as our bodies become passive, our brains get busy with housework. Memories, emotions and ideas are sifted and sorted whilst the physical debris from metabolic processes is scoured out in a hydraulic fashion only possible during sleep.

And then we dream. We experience an altogether different realm where anything is possible, where we can ride an elephant on a cloud, bend reality, travel through time, shape shift and it all makes perfect sense. But when we wake up, we forget all too soon and have to trade that sense of limitlessness with limitation. What if dreams were real and our waking life was just imagined?
