This collection of four of Beethoven's German Dances enables middle-level brass players to explore the Classical style at the end of the 1700s while performing as an ensemble. These arrangements, each lasting only about 11/2 minutes, can be performed by a trombone quartet or as a mixed brass quartet. The publication consists of a score for each dance and individual parts which may be photocopied. Parts are arranged as such...-the 1st trumpet part doubles 1st trombone. -the 2nd trumpet part doubles 2nd trombone.-the 1st and 2nd F Horn parts double the 2nd and 3rd trombone parts.-A tuba part doubles 4th trombone.Besides using these arrangements to feature an aspiring trombone quartet, they could be used to feature the entire brass section in middle level bands. The dances are short, less than 20 measures in length for each, with relatively easy rhythmic demands and range. They provide opportunities to develop articulation, especially staccato and legato. They are written in 3/4-time signature with two 8-bar phrases (which repeat). Played with repeats, the dances are in A-B-A form and provide young students with the experience of playing triple meter in one.
