Layla rubbed her eyes, but they were not playing tricks on her. There was definitely a light on in the warehouse. There were still functioning lights, electricity? It was a low, floor window, but the light was undoubtedly on. It flickered like a badly connected incandescent, but it was there. The flickering light reflected in her eyes, Layla stood up at her desk and walked around it and out the front door of the agency. She walked across the street and towards the warehouse, expecting at any moment for the light to turn off, for it to be in her imagination, or for someone to pop out and tell her she was on a prank TV show. But none of these things happened. Instead, as her steps drew closer and closer, when she was nearly on top of it, everything remained very much the same, and very much tangibly real. The window was barred and only a few inches from the parking lot's surface. Layla kneeled down, and then laid flat on her stomach so that she could look effectively through the window. What greeted her through the window was too much to believe. There was no electric light on, but there was light. There was a floating orb near the window. It was giving off light, but attached to nothing. It bobbed gently up and down, causing what Layla had thought was flickering. It seemed to have a mind of its own. The light having a mind of its own was further confirmed by the man who spoke to it. "Stop bobbing so much. You're making it difficult for me to fix this. Just stay still." The man's back was turned, and he was in the corner, working on something. There was a toolbox open next to him on the floor. Layla watched as he held out his hand near the box, and a tool shot into it as if by magic. She rubbed her eyes once more, confirming only that she was tired, but not hallucinating.
