As a career teacher, I am grateful for the many years I was able to spend teaching middle graders. Although I enjoyed teaching every subject, my most fulfilling activity was to work with my students to create and then put on plays that pertained to the development of our great nation. How thrilled we all were when we were scheduled to give these plays to a packed gym in the evening! I say 'thank you' to those who helped me be the best teacher I could be. These include the well-meaning administrators in the districts in which I was employed as well as professors from the following universities who guided me as I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees: University of Illinois, Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., University of Colorado, and Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. My gratitude also extends to those who conducted a course in writing for children at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.
