Stepping off the school bus each morning to a day filled with nothing but play leads to creative minds wandering in devious ways. It also gives bully Jake-who clamors for attention-free reign to trap timid Grace in a no-win situation.
School day after school day, twenty-nine cocky chicks manipulate their wimpy teacher, Mr. Cock-Rooster (also the school principal), into sending them out to play. The drill is simple. Create a rowdy-ruckus roar and Mr. Cock-Rooster will shoo us out the door.
But oh, their non-learning endeavor makes Mr. Boar (the fifth-grade teacher next door) angry to the core.
All year, not a smidgen of schoolwork gets done as day after day the class plays baseball out under the sun. But in one game more lies at stake than either side winning as proven by one cocky chick not grinning.
Besides being fun reading, this rhyming parody also promotes diversity, builds vocabulary, teaches valuable life lessons, and emphasizes the importance of education.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Entering the school of hard knocks at birth, struggling through college while raising a family during her 30s, directing a counseling business for 25 years, chiseling stone and molding clay to keep her sanity in her mid-life crisis years, jumping into the writer's pool at age 70, receiving a 2018 CIPA EVVY AWARD (YAHOO!) . . . All this and much more make up author Mary Korte's legacy. Today she shares life with a wonderful, supportive husband. The two live in the Seattle area and winter in Arizona. When it comes to writing, versatility is Korte's strong point. She loves melding fantasy with reality, rising to challenges and venturing into the unknown. Her creative side pushes her to think outside the box, to do the unexpected. To date, Korte has eight books to her credit. They are: - FIVE EQUALS ONE - a 3-volume Christmas story boasting a thought-provoking message about ethnic diversity. NOTE: This series is not for kids under age 6, but it works well as a family read for kids who no longer believe in Santa Claus. - BULLY JAKE AND GRACE'S FATE, HATS OFF TO MR. BOAR, and MY MIND IS TOTALLY MINE - a 3-book rhyming parody series that allows readers to get into the minds of acting-out middle school students. NOTE: Most of the pages in these parodies contain less than 50 words-a definite draw for kids. - ONLY A SHOEBOX TO HIS NAME - showcases the tenacity of a foster child born crippled during the Depression. His story leaves one wondering if the insensitivities of the Welfare and medical systems contributed to him developing an inappropriate behavior, one he managed to keep hidden. - FORMATTING YOUR FANTASTIC BOOK, A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FROM IDEA TO PRINT - a how-to book for authors who want to self-publish but know little-to-nothing about formatting. This book garnered a 2018 CIPA (Colorado Independent Publishers Association) EVVY Third Place Award. Mary invites you to visit her website at www.HavetPress.com
