Towering high above the Old Town, the mighty Fortress Hohensalzburg, with its thousand-year history, looks down over the Salzach Valley. After the Prince-Archibishopric of Salzburg was secularized in 1803, the Fortress was used as barracks, depot and prison. But deep within its walls, far from the "tourist trail," are ancient chambers, store-rooms and soldiers' quarters; untouched for centuries, these are not accessible to visitors. In this dual-language pictorial book, Fortress guide Stefan Haslacher and photographer Michael Gnther reveal new perspectives and hidden corners of Hohensalzburg Fortress.
