Since 1971 I've taught children and adults, most subjects, and all grade levels, as well as college courses-including foreign exchange students, adults learning English as their second language, and students unable to attend school due to illness, surgeries, emotional problems, or pregnancies. Teaching via private instruction became very satisfying. I decided that I had found my niche. Moving around the country with my military husband during his assignments, I taught in Alaska, Washington, and Montana, finally settling in New York. Years later I returned to my native Ohio to help care for my aging parent. Some of my experience was gained while teaching in a traditional classroom; most was not. Recently, I also began teaching via the Internet. I have coordinated lesson plans for parents who home-school their children, and I have conducted the instruction for a tutorial program offered by the UAW at the Ford plant in Avon Lake, Ohio, for workers' children. I've prepared students for various examinations, including SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), PSAT (Preliminary version of the SAT), ACT (American College Test), GRE (Graduate Record Exam), GED (General Educational Development), OGT (Ohio Graduation Test), OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessment), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), PRAXIS (practical application of learning), Catholic High School Entrance Exam, the New York State Regents Exam, the Pipe Fitter's Licensing Exam, and Broker's Licensing Exam. I teach skills in organization, study, time management, and efficiency while I am teaching the subject material; and-importantly-I encourage my students to become independent from me. I have been the guest speaker at various PTA/PTO meetings. In 2007, I was inducted into Who's Who Among America's Teachers. In 2012, I published "Teach Your Child to Learn, A Parent's Guide: Simple and Tested Techniques That Work." After more than four decades of teaching a variety of subjects to hundreds of students, I still find that one-on-one is stimulating and productive, for both the student and for me-in my case, even well past my formative years. I love what I do!
