The Fencer and the Zen Body What is a Zen Body? Can Eastern insights help Western fencing? Can there be ... a fusion? A blending of disparate elements into a unified and mutually beneficial whole. That's what Quincy Rabt has done with fencing and martial arts, fusing Eastern insights with Western scientific understanding of the human body moving in combat. The result: -A new vision of fencing movement that's based on centuries-old traditions -Eastern imagery supported by Western biomechanics -A way of imagining fencing movements that leads to relaxed, efficient speed and power This is not a book on how to fence. It is a book intended to transform your understanding of how to fence, how you experience your fencing, and how you can convey the essence of fencing to others. A fusion!

Quincy Day Rabt is a Renaissance man for the twenty-first century-a healer, a martial artist, an athlete, a teacher, a sculptor, a gardener, and yes, a fencer. At present, he runs a sports injury and back pain clinic in Guildford, UK, teaches martial arts, conducts performance improvement clinics for athletes, and directs workshops on kinesiology, ergonomics, and movement dynamics for a wide variety of disciplines. And yes, he fences. Born in Sri Lanka and educated in India and England, he has practiced martial arts since childhood and has intensively studied nine. He qualified as a weightlifting coach under Angel Spassov Tzvetkov, the Head Coach for the Bulgarian National Weightlifting Team, and became Senior Coach for the Sri Lanka Amateur Weight Lifting Federation. Along the way, he won a silver medal at the Sri Lanka National Weight Lifting Championships. And yes, he fences. After earning his Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Surrey for research into Taijiquan, he worked at the Centre for Sport and Recreation at the University of Surrey, where he ran a clinic for sports injuries, treating and training athletes at every level, including Allen Wells, the Olympic 100-meter champion, and Zola Budd, the world record holder in the women's 5,000 meters. At the university, he also developed adult fitness programs, fitness testing programs, and training programs for individual athletes. In addition to his knowledge of sports medicine, he is certified in alternative therapies such as osteomyology, Swedish massage, acupuncture, acupressure, and Bio-Cranial Therapy.
