Things Cleared Up Finally

Philip Gardner was born in 1936 in Liverpool, England and educated at King's College, Cambridge and the University of Liverpool. He did his National Service with the British Army from 1957 to 1959, and then taught for four years at universities in Japan. From 1964 to 2001 he taught at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, of which he is now an Emeritus Professor of English. He has published five previous volumes of poetry, together with many academic publications which include books on E. M. Forster, William Empson, and A. E. Housman. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
