Lisa Gentile is a strong believer in "All Things Happen for a Reason." Her love of hockey as a child led her to attending the Rochester Institute of Technology because of the competitive women's ice hockey program. There, she discovered a passionate interest in their dietetic program. After completing four years of study at RIT and a thrilling ice hockey career, she attended Long Island University (C.W. Post) and completed a demanding one-year internship which is a requirement before sitting for the State Registration Exam for Dietitian's. While attending C.W. Post she also completed the two-year graduate nutrition and exercise physiology program; however it took quite a few years to finish her thesis project. Lisa had the desire to conduct a clinical trial. She didn't want to engage in writing a lengthy research paper as many other students did. She desired to engage in a project that clinically tested a hypothesis. Lisa began working for a prominent Bariatric surgeon and was given the opportunity to conduct a clinical nutrition thesis project. At the time, their center was chosen to participate in the first pre-FDA trial studies for a new weight loss procedure. This procedure, which had been a very successful surgery performed by surgeons in Europe many years, was the Laparoscopic, restrictive Lap-Band surgery. Lisa studied the nutritional data from each Lap-Band recipient. While completing this work, she immediately discovered the potential for her own research endeavor and following two years of data collection, lengthy research and diligent writing, she finally presented her study and received her Master's Degree. While working to complete this thesis, Lisa Gentile had the wonderful opportunity to consult for a number of distinguished bariatric physicians. Before patients underwent surgery, she provided potential bariatric recipients with education and support to assist them on their surgical weight loss journey. Lisa now pursues the practice of holistic health and wellness. She participated in a one-year program through The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which provides education for the health care practitioner who desires to treat their patient's through a connection of body, mind and spirit. Lisa now looks forward to incorporating this treatment modality within the scope of her practice. And has published her first book, "Transform Mind and Body with the Lap-Band" to further help patients to Optimal Health.
